As UAV Hive reported earlier, “On the 22nd of July DJI registered the trademark OSMO following on from having submitted the trademark for MATRICE, the OSMO is detailed as being a handheld gimbal with a feature list that suggests it could even have add-ons for underwater use, finally allowing DJI’s camera to take on the GoPro in all conditions.

This was a pretty exciting and smart discovery from the UAV Hive guys, but photos have yet to be discovered. Until now that is because some footage in a video blog called Internet Killed Television by a Youtube user called CTFxC seem to include a device that looks very much like a handheld device announced earlier by DJI but it’s clearly not the same thing because – for one – it’s black instead of grey. CTFxC vlogs about some pretty random stuff, at least compared to the chance that he might just have an early demo unit of what UAV Hive could have figured out the be the new DJI Osmo. Here he is eating in the video titled “I’m sick and scared” with a very interesting gimbal like unit on his table.

In the post dated September 9th, UAV Hive speculates that “Given DJI’s announcement of INSPIRATION with the O as a lens, it’s clearly a camera device fitting in with the timing of the trademark application, the font suggesting it’s for the Inspire, given we know a handheld gimbal was due for the Inspire it all fits together.” Here is a link to the full original trademark application.

So we can’t be entirely sure that these devices on the pictures above are indeed the new DJI Osmo, but a handheld unit for existing Inspire 1 owners – as we speculate this could be based on the fact that a camera is never to be seen on the images – would be a very consumer friendly move from DJI.

Let’s wait until the announcement scheduled for this Thursday, October 8th to find out more details, unless another leak emerges from China as it happened before previous product launches.
