Australia is well into the year 2015 already while most of the world is still waiting to enter New Year. Three drones captured exclusive footage of the spectacular Sydney fireworks on New Year’s Eve this year, for the first time ever.

Each drone, fitted with six high definition GoPro cameras, captured footage of the fireworks being emitted from the Harbour Bridge, the Opera House and the barges on the water from up to 1000 feet.

The 360-degree footage was featured live. Sydney Lord Mayor Clover Moore, told the ABC earlier in the day: ‘Those images will be beamed to a billion people around the world’.

As this flight would quite likely not be possible in the US today, it shows that professional teams in controlled situations can safely manage such a shooting (pun intended) and embracing new technology has major benefits that the public can enjoy.

So go ahead and enjoy the view and let us here at Dronethusiast wish you the Happiest and Most Prosperous New Year with lots of great drone related news!
