Altair Aerial Blackhawk

The Blackhawk by Altair Aerial is an absolute masterpiece that is currently going for only $110. You can read our full review of this great brushless drone here.

Here are the features and the specs:

altair aerial blackhawk features and specs

  • Has a total flight time of between 15 to 17 minutes
  • Uses a 6-axis gyro stabilization system
  • Has a maximum transmission range of between 300 to 500 meters

One of the best things about the Blackhawk by Altair Aerial is the fact that it comes with an action mount camera. The mount is compatible with GoPro models Hero 4 and Hero 4!

Additionally, we love Altair Aerial because it’s a USA-based company out of Nebraska, a small one, to boot! They’re great to work with when problems arise, if that ever even happens, and they have a quality line of drones that fit just about any budget you can think of.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t come with an onboard camera, so if you’re looking for a camera drone with brushless motors, this one may not be what you’re looking.

One of the things we like most about the MJX B6 by Rabing is the fact that you can do a number of upgrades on it, including the C5830 FPV camera, the receiver screen, and the G3 VR glasses. All of these items upgrade the brushless quad into a racing drone that will be tough to beat!

With that pro in mind, the biggest con would have to be what you’re going to spend on the additional pieces if you want to really beef it up. However, you don’t actually have to do any upgrading if you don’t want to – this brushless drone is just as good without them!

Beware, though, this one is a bit of a drifter. This isn’t too bad of a con. It just means that your hands should stay on the controls, whether you’re using the transmitter or your smartphone to fly it, at all times.

The biggest con, however, is that a couple of customers have reported that the combo didn’t come with the remote control. One thing that’s definitely likable about the Xtreme V2 by RC EYE is that it comes with a spare canopy, which is basically the quad’s shell. It also comes with a sunshade monitor for the transmitter’s screen, keeping the sun’s glare away.

What isn’t appealing, however, is that it looks very flimsy. Even though looks shouldn’t be judged, especially when it comes to drones, it can make users nervous.

Drone Motors – The Basics

Drones have quite a bit of terminology involved, which can make things confusing when trying to understand what everything means. Where flight power is concerned, however, you’ll want to look at the drone motors.

Brushless Motors vs Brushed Motors

Brushless motors are more expensive compared to brushed motors, but they pack a bigger punch. Because they use ESCs instead of brushes, they last longer, offer more power, and have a permanent magnetic external rotor with 3 phases of driving coil that really bring it all home.

Brushed motors, however, act like a magnet with 2 poles because of their set of wound, rotating wire coils. Because they use brushes, they aren’t all that durable and will always wear themselves down over time. Although, they are the cheaper choice, which is why they’re more common in regard to cheaper tiers.
