incredible timelapse footage made with drone

So many people have recently taken to the skies with their drones. Getting imagery is one of the common goals among those that fly drones since, depending on the type of drone being flown, excellent shots can be captured. Enthusiasts fly their drones at a variety of angles as well as heights in an effort to achieve the perfect shot.

Depending on the type of drone you have, it is likely equipped with a camera that is capable of taking still shots as well as video. If your drone didn’t come with an attached camera, it probably has a mount where you can easily attach a GoPro or other action camera. The length of the recording that you’d like to capture and the quality of the footage that you desire will greatly depend on the brand and model of the drone you’re flying.

The Hong Kong based company, Visual Suspect, has recently released an astounding video that was captured using a drone. They used their drone to fly in circles over the Greek island of Folegandros. This film, called “Low Earth Orbit,” provides a view that is commonly seen by birds of prey as the drone circles around the same area the duration of the short film.

Throughout this timelapse video, you’re able to see how the colors change in the scenery. The video was made using images that were taken in manual as well as automatic flights of the drone. Taking a look at this video provides you with an interesting view that often only seen by birds. This film gives people the chance to appreciate drone videos from their vantage point high above the land.

Videos like this are simply beautiful. They however don’t help the commercial drone industry which is in its infancy and in most cases having to heavy negotiate their local Aviation Authority to build up the confidence that as an industry “We” follow the rules and exhibit good airmanship and stewardship. This film while artistically amazing would appeared to have been completed in breach of:

    1. VLOS – flying through or in clouds, if you can see out from the camera you won’t be able to see from the ground.
    2. Separation standards – again flying with the level of cloud cover means that you are unable to maintain visual separation distance from any manned aircraft operating
    3. Populated Areas – flying over peoples houses

It is also disappointing when sites (such as yours) then distribute and promote the videos as fine examples of what drones can do…they can do that, its just generally illegal. If the footage was captured with the complete approval and blessing of the YPA (Greek Civil Aviation Authority) then a little footnote in the credits would be nice as would your site confirming its legality prior to promotion.

This footage is stunning and we just hope that sooner than later some of the rules will be relaxed as they are very rigid and we need to be able to take our own responsible decisions in some cases, unfortunately as in everything else, some people ruin it for the mature res[ponsible pilot

Terrific footage – and very precise flying. I noticed on the orbit shots that the radius from the point of interest never wobbled. I’m willing to overlook the legality of flying over clouds, etc. My only criticism is that after the halfway point those high speed orbits and fast cuts actually left me a little queasy and dizzy! Not having been raised in the MTV age, I guess my brain just needs slower input! 🙂
