I guess there is no end to the supply of morons with bad flying skills who think that disturbing wildlife from up close is a good idea. Just very recently I’ve found this other video where a kangaroo whacks a drone out of the sky after the pilot flies up close, clearly making the marsupials to feel threatened.

This time, a couple calling themselves “The Honey Badger” (James and Mira Raley) decided to fly over a group of lions at Antelope Park which is a private game park in Zimbabwe that also does lion breeding and rehabilitation.

They start a rapid descent and flight forward, almost charging at the lions, clearly scaring them which is the most despicable action they have taken. After the lions move out of the way, the Phantom moves on forward and starts to ascend but flies right into a tree which demonstrates that bad flying skills mixed with horrible judgment blend nicely into a recipe for disaster. Watch the lions take revenge after the Phantom hits the ground! The munching goes on for several minutes, but it’s oddly satisfying to watch the lions eat a DJI Phantom as revenge, hoping that none of the sharp pieces or any other part harms them.

One thing has to be given to the couple: they have apologized and showed regret in the comments and said that the lions have not been harmed. They also showed self-irony saying: “Pilot is attending a tree and wildlife avoidance course.”

If you are a newbie and want to record some gorgeous footage, please respect nature and stay away from wildlife. It’s also a good idea to get some training. Here is a very affordable ($49, half off) course on Udemy that will surely give you the basics and help you shoot great footage safely.
