FPV drone racing I believe has some of the highest – if not THE highest – cool factors of all niches within multirotor flying. I also believe that it’s the one that will grow in popularity in the coming year and should take the world by storm. With amazing videos like the Star Wars Inspired Drone Race one we covered before, more and more people will adopt this hobby and organize races as the community keeps on growing. One of our writer Mark Cocquio is also involved in FPV racing and covered the subject in his post Introduction to FPV Racing and Mini Quadcopters before.
I predict that a ready to fly, durable and affordable solution for this hobby is going to emerge and become the Phantom of FPV racing, at a lower price point of course. Yes, there is Trappy and his company Team Black Sheep of course. They are the pioneers of FPV but the aircraft that allow you to record similar footage to the one below are all wing planes like the TBS Caipirinha, rather than quadcopters. You would not want to fly your TBS Discovery worth at least $1500 without accessories so close to objects.
So here is an FPV video I came across the other day which is really amazing. It is by FPVLeif and he posted it on Vimeo. He is not racing against anyone in this video, he is just flying his quad through the most amazing tight places the poor thing can barely fit through, but the result is amazing.
